For the month of May there is a daily drawing challenge to design a mermaid based on a specific prompt each day. This is my completed collection for May of 2021.
Cephalopods
This series was started in 2018 when I set out share my enjoyment of marine biology with my Instagram following. The series has since blossomed into an educational mission to teach others about these beautiful and scarcely known creatures. I'm still uncertain how many of the cephalopod class I intend to capture, but the current intention is to continue the series and connect with other educational and conservational efforts.
Into the SpiderVerse: Spidersonas
With the success of the Into the Spider-verse movie by Sony I undertook a labor of love to design an army of unique
Spider-People. Each character is based on their own actual species of spider. This project became an educational experience as each new Spidersona led to doing research about the spiders that inspired them giving me a much higher appreciation for these incredibly diverse creatures.
Fish Foo
As a challenge to myself I decided to design an original creature which I've deemed a Fish Foo. These creatures are a combination of various fish species (fresh water and salt water) and Chinese Foo dogs. The idea was to design various mounts for a Dungeons & Dragons style fantasy realm.
Betta Bubbles
My longest running series, it began back in 2014 when I was inspired by my pet betta fish named Mythril. The fish was so beautiful and had so many different colors I wanted to try and capture his opal sheen and his personality. What resulted was highly saturated colors and ultra-round bubbly fish.
The Mad Menagerie
The Mad Menagerie is a series of cartoonishly designed animals.What started out as a style exercise turned into an educational experience. The series now educates followers about species, exotic and otherwise.
Mushyrariums
What if you mixed a fungus with a terrarium? You'd get Mushyrariums, a symbiotic creatures of my own design. Each Mushyrarium has it's own micro ecosystem in its body that it nurtures and collects.
Floofs
A spin-off from the Betta Bubbles series, Floofs are a collection of ridiculously fluffy cats.
